Workforce Development Board at CCCC hosts youth rally

Christopher ‘Play’ Martin, one half of the late ‘80s/early ‘90s rap duo Kid ‘N Play, was one of the motivational speakers at the June 17 ‘On the Brink of Greatness’ Summer Youth Rally at the Dennis A. Wicker Civic Center for youth from Lee, Chatham, Harnett and Sampson counties. The Triangle South Workforce Development Board at Central Carolina Community College sponsored the event. The TSWDB is funded by the federal government and administered by the college for Lee, Chatham, Harnett, and Sampson counties. It provides an array of services to youth and dislocated workers, most aimed at opportunities to gain new skills through college courses and other means. Youth from Lee, Chatham, Harnett and Sampson counties gathered at the Dennis A. Wicker Civic Center June 17 for an ‘On the Brink of Greatness’ Summer Youth Rally sponsored by the Triangle South Workforce Development Board at Central Carolina Community College. Motivational speakers for the event were (from left) Christopher ‘Play’ Martin, one half of the late ‘80s/early ‘90s rap duo Kid ‘N Play; Racquel Williams, president of Can I Live, a nonprofit providing training to those struggling with poverty; and W.K. Johnson, teen advocate with the Boys and Girls Club of Lee County. Speaking, but not pictured, was Kwain Bryant, founder of Empowerment Exchange in Charlotte.
