SANFORD - Jamar Butler of Central Carolina Community College has been named the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division 3 Region X Player of the Week for Feb. 3-9.
Butler, a 6-foot-3 sophomore guard from Spring Lake, scored 33 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and had one assist and two steals with zero turnovers in CCCC's 86-54 victory over Johnston Community College. Butler's performance helped the Cougars clinch the No. 2 seed for the upcoming Regional tournament. In his last six games, Butler - who attended Western Harnett High School - is averaging 21.7 points per game.
The CCCC men's team will host Mt. Zion Christian Academy Prep at 7 p.m. Feb. 13, travel to Chapel Hill to play the University of North Carolina JV team at 5 p.m. Feb. 15, and will host Brunswick Community College at 7 p.m. Feb. 18.
