SANFORD - Central Carolina Community College has canceled its fall sports season for the 2020-21 academic year, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
CCCC competes in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), which announced on Monday that a majority of competition will be moved to the spring semester.
CCCC sports impacted are cross country, golf, and volleyball. There will be no CCCC cross country for the upcoming school year.
Current plans are for CCCC's golf and volleyball to compete in the spring.
The NJCAA plans for basketball to begin in January. CCCC has a men's and women's basketball team.
"While we are very disappointed that we will not be able to compete in the fall season, we will always put the health and safety of our student athletes and coaches as our top priority," said CCCC Athletic Director Jonathan Hockaday. "We feel that this is the best decision for our student athletes during this unprecedented time with COVID-19."
