From Lee County Government
LEE COUNTY - In collaboration with Central Carolina Community College, Lee County has acquired 22 acres of property formerly owned by Magneti Marelli, located at 2101 Nash Street Sanford, NC.
The property is strategically located adjacent to the Central Carolina Community College campus and is well situated for future expansion of the college.
This site will provide opportunities for the community college to relocate and expand manufacturing type training programs and workforce development. Relocation of programs on the main campus will allow room to renovate existing facilities for Lee Early College and for expansion of the library.
Lee County Board of Commissioner Chairman Kirk Smith stated "I see this as a good solution because it concentrates the college in a consolidated geographic area as we look for opportunities to meet the need for current and future expansion."
Julian Philpott, Chairman of the CCCC Board of Trustees, added "on behalf of the Trustees of Central Carolina Community College, we are extremely grateful for the willingness of our Lee County Commissioners to work toward the acquisition of the Magneti Marelli property for the benefit of CCCC and our service area. This acquisition, once consummated, will help CCCC to efficiently expand its first-class industrial, manufacturing and workforce development programs and assist Lee County in its continued drive to offer the best economic development and job opportunities possible."
Magneti Marelli will be leasing the property for 6 months up to a year as they close out their operations in Lee County.
