SANFORD, N.C. - In a move that promises to significantly bolster the technological capabilities of Central Carolina Community College, Jerry Pedley and Mertek Inc. have gifted a state-of-the-art Fanuc Robotic Arm to the college. This generous donation is set to transform training programs and enhance the learning experience for industry operators.

The Fanuc Robotic Arm, renowned for its sophisticated advanced controller and cutting-edge intelligence, is designed to tackle a range of versatile applications with unparalleled reliability. This intelligent robot's advanced networking capabilities make it an invaluable asset for modern industrial training.

"This simple donation will help Mertek now and in the future," said Mr. Pedley. "We need robotic skills and EVERY manufacturer in this area can use this skill set. Robots continue to create more jobs needing skilled workers, at higher than average pay rates."

The Fanuc Robotic Arm will be utilized by CCCC Industry Services. Its primary purpose is to provide comprehensive training to industry operators, focusing on mastering safety protocols and optimizing efficient utilization of robotic technology. This new addition complements the college's existing larger Industrial ABB Robotic Arm, expanding the scope and depth of practical training opportunities available to students.

The donation materialized when Mr. Pedley, realizing that he no longer required the robotic arm, saw an opportunity to benefit the college. Understanding CCCC's need for a smaller, yet highly advanced robotic arm, Mr. Pedley offered the equipment to enhance the college's training capabilities. This act of generosity not only reflects his commitment to technological advancement but also underscores his dedication to educational excellence.

Margaret Roberton, CCCC Vice President for Workforce Development and Chief of Staff, expressed her gratitude, stating, "Jerry Pedley is an amazing partner who has long been a supporter of Central Carolina Community College and the larger community. His donation of equipment, time, and expertise has a direct impact on the college's ability to provide relevant and high-quality training. We appreciate his passion for helping the college ensure that we have the tools needed by students entering the workforce of today and tomorrow."

Patricia Anderson, CCCC Industry Services Executive Director, echoed these sentiments, saying, "Mr. Pedley's generous donation has significantly enhanced the educational experience for our students. Mr. Pedley and his team at Mertek are esteemed partners with CCCC, and their contributions are highly valued and appreciated."

This substantial donation not only amplifies the technological resources available to CCCC but also signifies a broader commitment to fostering innovation and preparing students for the demands of a rapidly evolving industrial landscape.

"We work hard to attract manufacturers to Lee County. These manufacturers support smaller companies in the area," said Mr. Pedley. "I see our community college as one of the major reasons companies come to our area. We can provide resources needed."

What message does he have for fellow manufacturing professionals in regards to his experiences with CCCC? "Get involved with the programs related to your business at CCCC. Sit on an advisory board for that group. CCCC welcomes your input and advice," said Mr. Pedley, who now serves as a member of the college's Board of Trustees. "Most importantly, you will get to know potential employees in the program. Do not say no programs match your business. They are in place and, if not, customized training can be developed."

With the Fanuc Robotic Arm now a part of its training arsenal, Central Carolina Community College is well-positioned to continue its mission of delivering cutting-edge education and training to the next generation of industry professionals.

"Thank you to this community and for CCCC for allowing our business to grow and stay successful through good and bad times," said Mr. Pedley. "And special thanks to the Mertek Employee Partners that have learned our education systems, our community, and our business."
