SANFORD - The Central Carolina Community College Lady Cougar Volleyball team has signed Karey Beth "K.B." Howard, of Lee County High School, to a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Letter of Intent. The signing took place Dec. 19 at the college's Lee County Campus.
K.B. played at Lee County High as setter and defensive specialist and also played on the Lee County Heat Volleyball Club team, coached by her father, Robert Howard, and Frank Swindell.
Her parents, Robert and Lisa Howard, and several other family and friends attended the signing, as did Swindell and her coach from East Lee and Lee County, Carolyn Fowler. Robert Howard thanked the coaches and friends who have been a part of her athletic career to date for all that they have done.
K.B. will enter the University Transfer program at CCCC. Her plan right now is to major in Marketing at a senior university. The college program allows students to change their major and still work on the first two years of generalized classes.
Cougar Coach Bill Carter said that he is very pleased with the skills that K.B. brings to the court. The team has signed several players that will add very well to the returning players next year. The team played all freshmen this fall so all members are athletically eligible to return next year. The new players will add to that strength. The coming season shows great promise for the Lady Cougar Volleyball team.
