SILER CITY - Veterans Day will be observed on Thursday, Nov. 3, at the Central Carolina Community College Siler City Center.
This event will begin at 10 a.m. and will offer classes conducted by veterans who will share their military experiences.
The presenters will be Chatham County resident Dr. J. George Chall and CCCC Instructor Kyle Talbott. Chall was a World War II Army medic in the Battle of the Bulge, and upon returning from Europe, attended Columbia University on the G.I. Bill. Talbott is a Post-911 Navy veteran and teaches English as a Second Language at Siler City and also Spanish/College prep classes for Veterans Upward Bound. He is a native of Florida and a graduate of N.C. State University.
The event will include a ceremonial activity with patriotic music by vocalist Victoria Chall, accompanied by guitarist Danny Gotham, with participants in flag-arrayed formation.
This year's theme is "Celebrating American Heroes." The observance is intended to offer gratitude for deserving men and women who have served and continue to serve in the U.S. Armed Forces and for the year-round sacrifices of service members and their families.
With participation, career exploration, and military appreciation from students of the College and Career Readiness department, highlights will include tributes to the ends of World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War -- and a holiday-themed talent showcase.
The event is free and open to the public.
