SANFORD - Linda Spivey, of Sanford, has been installed as the 2009-10 president of the North Carolina Association of Educational Office Professionals, Inc. The installation took place March 20 at the organization's annual conference in Greensboro. 

The NCAEOP, founded in 1951 as the N.C. Association of Educational Secretaries, is a 2,800-member organization of personnel and administrators in North Carolina public and private educational institutions.

Spivey has been a Human Resources Employment Specialist at Central Carolina Community College for more than 30 years.

"I am honored to be the first from the college to serve as a state officer," Spivey said. "I love the college and see this as another opportunity to represent it as well as serve the NCAEOP."

She has been an active member of the state association for 26 years. She served as the vice president for 2007-08 and president-elect for 2008-09. She has also served as secretary, Awards Committee chairman, and co-registrar. 

Spivey is active in the organization's District 7, which includes Lee, Moore, Randolph, Stanly, Montgomery, Anson, Richmond, Union and Scotland counties. She has served as District 7 president, president-elect, vice president, and secretary. She has been a member of the National AEOP since 2002.

Spivey was instrumental in the establishment of the college's AEOP unit in 1983 and served as its first vice president. She has since served twice as president, as well as parliamentarian and on various committees. She was honored as the local and district Educational Office Professional of the Year in 1992-93 and 2004-05. 

Spivey is a native of Sanford. She earned her secretarial diploma from the Sanford Business College and an associate degree at Central Carolina C.C. She also holds a Professional Associate II Certificate from the NCAEOP. 

She has been the organist at Grace Chapel Christian Church, in Sanford, for 48 years and is president of the church's Ladies' Missionary Society. She is also active in the United Way of Lee County. Spivey enjoys bridal consulting as well. Spivey has been married to David Spivey, a retired Lee County Schools educator, for 49 years. The couple has two children and two grandchildren.

Other officers installed at the March 20 conference were: President-elect Lisa Elmore, of Pitt Community College; Vice President Kay Bradley, of Wayne Community College; and Secretary Tammy Lockamy, of Harnett County Schools.
