SANFORD — Jon Matthews, chairman of the Business Technologies Department at Central Carolina Community College from 2006 to 2009, has been promoted to Dean of University Transfer, Health Sciences, and Developmental Studies. He joined the Academic Affairs administrative team as of Aug. 10.

“I am honored to be offered the opportunity to serve CCCC in this capacity,” Matthews said. “We have strong leadership in the departments under my purview and I am confident that our faculty and staff will continue to provide our students with the skills needed to meet their educational goals. It's truly a great time to be a contributor at this college.”

Matthews, a resident of Lillington, joined the college faculty in 2001 after spending six years in the information technology industry. He served the college as Business Administration instructor at Harnett Correctional Institute, in Lillington, then as Business Administration lead instructor.

He earned both his B.S. and Master’s degrees in Business Administration from East Carolina University. Matthews is also a graduate of the N.C. Community College Leadership Program and the N.C. Community College System Department Chairs Institute.  In 2008, he presented research findings on classroom technologies at the N.C. Community College Faculty Association Conference and the N.C. Distance Learning Alliance Conference.
