LILLINGTON -- Central Carolina Community College is offering a weekend hybrid Nurse Aide I class, beginning April 24.

In the weekend hybrid Nurse Aide I class, all of the theory work for the class is done online and the student only needs to come to school for the lab practice and clinical portions of the class. The class starts April 24 and concludes Aug. 22.

All of the lab/clinical days for this course are held on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Harnett Health Sciences Building, 51 Red Mulberry Way, Lillington, and at a clinical location to be determined.

The Nurse Aide I program is designed to provide the entry level, fundamental nursing skills essential for providing patient care services under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Emphasis is placed on hands-on skill applications via written, lab-demonstration activities, and clinical rotations to assure that students learn how to efficiently care for patients.

Upon completion of the course, students are eligible to take the Nurse Aide I Certification Examination. After passing the examination, individuals are placed on the N.C. Nurse Aide I Registry.

Students must have a high school diploma or GED.

"The weekend hybrid Nurse Aide I class caters to working adults who would like to enter the medical field. The Nurse Aide I class is the first rung of the ladder toward the goal of a career in healthcare," said Lennie Stephenson, CCCC Director of Continuing Education Medical Programs.

"The hybrid class format is used to decrease the number of days an individual must physically attend class and the weekend option is used to make the class more convenient for individuals who work during the week," said Stephenson. "Our main goal is to make sure that members of our community have a variety of options available for career improvement that will make it easier for them to accomplish their goals."
